Irwin House hosts GIFTED V: It’s 5th Annual Holiday Exhibition

THRU DECEMBER 22, 2024 | DETROIT – On Black Friday, November 29, 2024, Irwin House Gallery opens GIFTED V – its 5th annual “Gift of Art” holiday affordable art exhibition. Touted as the gallery’s “biggest and most festive and inclusive” show of the year, GIFTED V has been guest-curated by Kirsten Jordan and brings together over 150 original works by forty local visual artists. All works are affordably priced to encourage holiday art-giving!  

“Most of our exhibitions are themed, solo, or geared towards specific audiences,” shares gallery director, Misha McGlown. “We look forward to this show every year, as it allows us to introduce new talent, foster relationships, and bring a wide range of artists, creatives, and art-lovers together.”  With threats of uncertainty and division looming over America’s communities, this year’s holiday exhibition holds special significance. “Spaces for hope and celebration, where diverse groups of people can come together, are needed now more than ever,” she adds. “This exhibition, its art and creators, have always offered that kind of openness and acceptance.”

Participating artists are intergenerational, cross-cultural, and both emerging and established, including:

Chris Dragan, Dalejuan, Daniel Parker, Dawud Shabazz, Debbie LaPratt, Dominick Lemonious, Donald Calloway, Dora Kelley, E’Lana Amyre, Ellen K. Doyle, Elonte Davis, Gyona Rice, Ivan Quinones II, James Hollerbach, Jasmine Graham, Jennifer Maples, Jennifer Mones, Joseph Cazeno III, Jonathan Kimble, Jugashree, Kelly O’Neill, Kristen Trierweiler, Limani Laster, Loralee Grace, Lulu Fall, Mariah Guy, Mariah Mitchell, MarTenya Shawhan, Mary Morekas, Munson Steed, Paul Erlandson, Samaiyah Abdur-Rahman, Sam Kthar, Scott Millington, Simone Rosia, Stephanie Fazekas, Stephanie Onwenu, Tomo Mori, William Matthews, Zllen, and Zuri Dean. Exhibited works include figurative and abstract paintings and renderings, mixed and digital media compositions, photography, and sculpture. Prices range from $40-$500 and, as always, there will be hidden gems that would normally sell for much more and opportunities to collect early works by promising emerging artists. Holiday shoppers have the option to collect their art at the time of purchase or leave the work on exhibit through the end of show, December 22, 2024.

The guest-curator feature is also a traditional highlight of Irwin House’s holiday show!  Gifted V’s curator, Kirsten Jordan, is an avid collector and a forging authority on art acquisition in and around Detroit. She has carefully reviewed more than 250 entries to put together an exhibition that promises to be joyful, collectible, and representative of the richness of our local art community.

GIFTED V launches with an Open House Reception on Black Friday, November 29, 2024, despite the inclement weather. Additional programming throughout December includes:

– Sat, December 7thToy Drive to benefit COTS, presented by filmmaker Anthony Brogdon & friends,  4-7 pm.
– Sat, December 7th – Donald Calloway’s annual Cheap Wine & Chicken art party at Calloway’s art studio: 2363 W. Grand Blvd., 7 pm until. Irwin House stays open ‘til midnight. Admission $5 or cheap wine.
– Fri, December 20th New Collectors Art Crawl led by curator, Kirsten Jordan. The evening includes an exhibition tour and, cocktails/refreshments, and a jaunt to Donald Calloway’s art studio. FREE to attend but RSVP HERE.  6-9 pm.
– Sun, December 22ndGlogg & Cookie closing reception and last day to see the show! Bring your favorite cookie (optional) and sample the gallery’s signature hot holiday beverages! FREE to attend but RSVP HERE. 2-6 pm.
